Agarwood Oil in India:

• Luscious and resinous, dark and exotic, Agarwood oil, also known as Aloeswood or Oud oil has a millennial association with mysticism, aphrodisia and divine ritual.
• Derived from the hydro-distillation of the agarwood, which lends it a particularly deep, unctuous quality, this ethereal and earthy nectar is among the rarest and certainly the most costly of all essential oils.
• Agarwood oil is surrounded by myths and legends: it is reputed to have magical powers of attracting wealth and love.
• Agarwood (Gaharu) is precious resinous wood formed in heartwood of Aquilaria tree, an archaic tropical evergreen tree native to Golf of Tonkin, Vietnam and other countries of Southeast Asia. The odor of Agarwood is complex and pleasing. As a result, Agarwood and its essential oil gained great cultural and religious significance in ancient civilizations around the world.
• Nowadays, Agarwood has been widely use in aroma industry, medicine, indoor air improvement and fumigation and religious practices and spiritual life.
• Agarwood oil is obtained using a hydro distillation.

Odor profile: The pathological secretion of the aquilaria tree, a rich, musty woody-nutty scent that is highly prized in the Middle East. In commercial perfumery it's safe to say all "oud" is a recreated synthetic note.

Uses:

• An important use of agarwood is the production of incense.
• Agarwood is an aphrodisiac, both in oil form, and as incense. These are generally topical uses but the oil is also sold in Vietnamese pharmacies for internal use with the same goal.
• Chinese medicine uses powdered Aquilaria as a treatment for cirrhosis of the liver and for other medicines.
• It has also been used as a treatment for lung and stomach tumors.

Approx. Price: Rs 9,715 / 100 mlGet Latest Price
Additional Details:

Ambrette oil is pale yellow, with an enchanting aroma described variously as sweet, rich, warm, musky, fatty and nutty, with floral overtones. After a short period of aging, more complex notes can emerge, such as wine, brandy, fruit, and tobacco.

Like all musks, Ambrette is a perfumery base note. It is a powerful, tenacious scent.

Ambrette oil is expensive and rare because so much work goes into creating it. Unlike some oil crops where the plant leaves are used, Ambrette oil is made only from seeds, which weigh very little and must be carefully gathered. The seeds represent a tiny fraction of the biomass of the entire plant, and only a very small yield of essential oil is achieved-- 0.2% to 0.6% of the total weight of the seeds.

Ambrette oil is used in high end, luxury perfumes and cosmetic products. It is also used as a flavoring in vermouth and bitters, chewing tobacco, sweets, and baked products.

Additional Details:

Warm, sweet, rich, and woody, the use of cedar oil can be traced back to Biblical times. The Atlas cedar is related to the well-known centuries- old biblical cedars of Lebanon. Cedar wood has a long history as an incense and perfume. The wood was burned by the Greeks and Romans to fragrant the air. The scientific name of Atlas cedar is Cedrus atantica. The Atlas cedar is a cedar native to the Atlas Mountains of Algeria (Tell Atlas, Saharan Atlas) and Morocco (in the Rif and Middle Atlas, and locally in the High Atlas). A majority of the modern sources treat it as a distinct species Cedrus atlantica. Atlas cedar wood Essential Oil can be used in place of Sandalwood. Good for balancing fluids in the body especially fluid retention. For menopausal women needing adrenal support, Atlas cedar wood is ideal especially when blended with pine and black spruce

Our Meena Perfumery’s Atlas cedar wood Essential Oil has been used in medicines and cosmetics throughout the ages. Atlas cedar wood has a place in Alopecia or hair loss blends. Atlas cedar wood Oil is especially good for energy work and healing the energy field. This oil is good for meditation and creating sacred space. Cedar is a Semitic word meaning "the power of spiritual strength". While many oils claim to be cedars; Atlas cedar is truly a cedar. Also used as a fixative in perfumes. In France, this oil can only be obtained from a pharmacist, as it is considered a neurotoxin and an abortive because of its ketones (especially the atlantone content). This is a good example of looking at oil from its parts and not it’s whole. It seems that when you look at this oil in its whole form, it is safe. Oil from aged trees (20-30 years) is considered the best quality. There is also an Atlas cedar wood distilled from the heart wood and it is considered more aromatic.

Bitter Almond Oil

Approx. Price: Rs 402 / 100 mlGet Latest Price
Additional Details:

The health benefits of bitter almond essential oil can be attributed to its properties like vermifuge, febrifuge, bactericidal, germicidal, fungicidal, sedative, anesthetic, aperient, diuretic, anti intoxicating, anti carcinogenic, antispasmodic etc.

Bitter almond oil has various health benefits. Some of which include:

Febrifuge: The bitter elements have always been used as febrifuges. The reason behind it might be that all bitter elements contain alkaline compounds and are more or less toxic in nature. This toxicity and bitterness effectively inhibit the growth of infections in the body, thereby reducing fever. For the same reason, bitter almond oil, in very low doses, has also been in use as a febrifuge for frequent fevers.

Vermifuge: The acute bitterness and the poisonous nature of bitter almond oil are very effective in killing intestinal worms, but again, it should be administered in very low potency.

Bactericidal, Germicidal, Fungicidal and Anti Viral: The two components of bitter almond oil, hydrogen cyanide and benzaldehyde, are extremely toxic to animal life as well as to bacteria, germs, fungi and virus and thus can be efficiently employed as a bactericide, anti viral and fungicide. So, it can be used in curing ailments associated with infections from virus, germs and fungus.

Sedative & Anesthetic: The toxic compound glycoside amygdalin, present in bitter almond oil, affect nerves and make them insensitive to any sensation (pain etc.), thus inducing numbness and anesthetic effects. But it should be applied externally for local anesthetic purpose only. Ingestion for total anesthetic purposes should never be attempted.

Aperient: Being toxic in nature, bitter almond oil cannot be digested and if ingested, cause frequent loose motions and vomiting. Thus it has been and is still in use as an effective purgative. The only thing is that the dose given should be very low and mild or it may have severe adverse effects.

Diuretic: The body has a natural tendency to remove the toxic substances getting inside the body through sweat, urine and excreta. That is why when bitter almond oil is ingested in very small amount, the body tends to throw it out through frequent urination. This frequent urination helps lose weight and relaxes the body. When combined with the anesthetic and tranquilizing effects of this oil, it successfully brings down the blood pressure.

Celery Seed Oil

Approx. Price: Rs 1,139 / 100 mlGet Latest Price
Additional Details:

Ancient Ayurvedic medicine practitioners used celery seed to treat water retention, colds, digestive problems, flu, arthritis, and liver and spleen disorders. Today’s most common herbal use for celery is celery seed diuretic, although it is also used for a variety of other common ailments and health issues. Common celery seed oil uses in herbal medicine are listed below:

  • Celery seed acts as a mosquito repellant.
  • Celery seed extract on blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
  • Some celery seed health benefits stem from the fact that celery is very rich in lutein. People who eat diets high in lutein are less likely to develop certain types of cancer.
  • Celery seed supplements can calm nerves and reduce muscle spasms caused by twitching nerves.
  • Celery seed oil appears to protect the liver against damage from aspirin and other pain relievers.
  • Celery seed is great for treating inflammatory problems like arthritis and gout.
  • Celery seed is one of the most effective natural diuretics available, meaning it increases urine output in the body, aiding in the expulsion of toxins.

Celery seeds contain a compound, 3-n-butylphthalide, that has been demonstrated to lower blood pressure in rats. Bergapten in the seeds can increase photosensitivity, so the use of essential oil externally in bright sunshine should be avoided. The oil and large doses of seeds should be avoided during pregnancy, as they can act as a uterine stimulant. Seeds intended for cultivation are not suitable for eating as they are often treated with fungicides.

Celery is used in weight-loss diets, where it provides low-calorie dietary fibre bulk. Celery is often purported to be a "negative calorie food" based on the idea that the body will burn more calories during the digestion of the food than the body can extract from the food itself. The fact that the body uses very small amounts of energy in digestion compared to what can be extracted even from a low calorie food like celery disproves this theory.

Additional Details:

Palma Rosa is a grass whose botanical name is Cymbopogon Martini. It has two varieties, namely, Motia & Sofia, which differ slightly in their aroma. Different producers give preference to different chemotypes as per the demand of the market. Extraction of essential oil is done by steam distillation of dried grass which is harvested before flowering. The chief constituents of this oil are geraniol, geranyl acetate, dipentene, linalool, limonene and myrcene. This oil smells like Rose Oil and hence got its name Palma Rosa. This is why it is sometimes used in place of Rose Oil and many a times adulterated with Rose Oil, being cheaper.

The health benefits of Palma Rosa Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties like anti septic, anti viral, bactericide, cytophylactic, digestive, febrifuge and hydrating.
This oil is widely used as a flavouring agent in the food & beverages, soap, perfume, oil and cosmetics industries. It also has many medicinal uses which we shall see now.

Anti Septic: We are very much familiar with the word “Septic”, it is a very painful situation caused due to infection in wounds and vulnerable internal organs such as urinary tracts, urinary bladder, urethra, colon, kidneys etc. Palmarosa oil applied externally on wounds, it protects them from infections and also kills the bacteria which have already grown on them. Taken internally, it inhibits the bacterial growth in the genitor-urinary tracts and gives effective protection against septic.

Anti Viral: Dealing with the viruses is not at all an easy task. This is not like killing bacteria. Viruses develop a protective coating on them, called cyst, which protects them from extremities in the surrounding and is so tough that it can withstand almost anything. It is at this stage that the Essential Oil of Palma Rosa checks and inhibits this duplicating of virus and eliminates them.

Bactericide: The Essential Oil of Palma Rosa is bactericidal in nature and inhibits bacterial growth by killing them. It is good in curing internal bacterial infections like colitis and those in colon, stomach, urinary bladder, prostrate, urethra & urinary tracts and kidneys etc. and external bacterial infections on skin, armpits, head, eyebrows & eyelids, ears etc.

Cytophylactic: The Palma Rosa Oil is cytophylactic in nature. That means, it promotes growth of cells and recycling of the cellular matter. Thus it helps repair the damages done to the body by ageing, wounds and various other reasons and also in the overall growth of the body. Since it also promotes growth of the defensive cells of the body, therefore it strengthens the immune system also.

Digestive: The secretion of digestive juices into the stomach is aggravated by this oil, thereby promoting digestion. It also aids absorption of the nutrients from the food.

Additional Details:

Active brain stimulant, which produces sleeplessness, hence its great value in narcotic poisoning, in acute cases is injected into the rectum. Very valuable in cases of snake-bite, helping to ward off the terrible coma. It also exerts a soothing action on the vascular system, preventing a too rapid wasting of the tissues of the body; these effects are not only due to the volatile oil but to the caffeine it contains. Caffeine is valuable for heart disease, ascites and pleuritic effusion and combines well with digitalis; also valuable in cases of inebrity; is a powerful diuretic, but loses its effect with use.

Coffee consumption has generally been shown to have little or no impact on cancer development. Coffee consumption reduces the risk of prostate cancer, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, Parkinson's disease, heart disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, and gout. It may increase the risk of acid reflux and associated diseases. The fact that decaffeinated coffee also exhibits preventative effects against diseases such as prostate cancer and type 2 diabetes suggests that coffee's health benefits are not solely a product of its caffeine content. Specifically, the antidiabetic effect of caffeine has been attributed to caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid. The presence of antioxidants in coffee has been shown to prevent free radicals from causing cell damage. Evidence suggests that roasted coffee has a stronger antioxidant effect than green coffee. Coffee is no longer thought to be a risk factor for coronary heart disease.

Caffeine acts as an acute antidepressant. A review published in 2004 indicated a negative correlation between suicide rates and coffee consumption. It was suggested that the action of caffeine in blocking the inhibitory effects of adenosine on dopamine nerves in the brain reduced feelings of depression. Excessive amounts of coffee can cause very unpleasant and even life-threatening adverse effects. Coffee's adverse effects are generally more common when taken in excess. Many of coffee's health risks are due to its caffeine content and can therefore be avoided by drinking decaffeinated coffee. Oily components called diterpenes are present in unfiltered coffee and coffee brewed using metal filters, but not in coffee brewed using paper filters. The two diterpenes present in coffee, kahweol and cafestol, have been associated with increased risk of coronary heart disease via elevation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels in blood.
